Magee Lifetime Follow-up Clinic

A unique program providing patients and families with continued access to a rehabilitation physician and a team of experts to help maintain good health.

Patients with complex disabilities often continue to have lifetime needs to maintain their independence and manage complications associated with their injury. Magee’s Lifetime Follow-up Clinic offers a full continuum of services throughout a person’s lifetime. It is led by a physiatrist (physical medicine and rehabilitation doctor) and a nurse case manager.  Together, they identify medical needs and coordinate services, which may include referrals for physical, occupational and speech therapies, nutritional support, social or vocational services, wound care, or psychological care.

Additional services include:

  • Urology
  • Skin integrity (wound care)
  • Specialized equipment and assistive technology clinics
  • Prosthetic clinic
  • Case management services
  • Nutritional supplement program
  • Bowel and bladder management
  • Spasticity management (anti-spasmodic medications, pumps or injections)
  • Rehab physician services

Patients are initially seen at the Magee Lifetime Follow-Up Clinic 30 days following discharge from the hospital. Subsequent appointments at the clinic are scheduled as-needed for medication and supply refills or in the event of new health issues.

Those persons with a newly acquired spinal cord injury (SCI), who are enrolled in the SCI specialized Medical Home, also have access to a hotline for 24/7 medical advice and help.
