Team Magee Catches Waves at “They Will Surf Again” in Wildwood Crest, NJ

Flash flood warnings, thunder, and lightning were all part of this past Sunday’s forecast, but it was only appropriate that the weather quickly took a positive turn with clear skies and plenty of sun (some of us lobster-looking therapists may say a little too much sun!)

On Sunday, Team Magee therapists, nurses, and case managers all volunteered at the Life Rolls On: They Will Surf Again event at Wildwood Crest, NJ. The real stars of the show, though, were our four adapted surfers! Magee’s adapted surfers represented  all genders, ages, and abilities, but they all shared the same drive, inspiration, and passion to show the infinite possibility beyond paralysis.

This annual event connects not only the volunteers and the adapted surfers, but family, friends, and the community who may be unaware of adapted sports/recreation opportunities. As a volunteer each year, I have to say this year was specifically life changing because there was a sense of community within Team Magee. Magee’s adapted surfers are all currently members of the SCI Young Adult Group, and it was clear how much their involvement in the group and in the community has led them to continue to succeed, push the limits, and be an inspiration to all. I encourage all to sign up for next year’s “They Will Surf Again” event, and participate in this life changing opportunity!
