PT Month Spotlight: Meet Kelly Landis

In honor of PT Month, we’d like to introduce you to some of our Physical Therapists here at Magee.  Today, meet Kelly Landis.

What educational path led you to your career at Magee?  I got my undergraduate degree from Bucknell University in Biology, then onto Boston University for my Doctorate in Physical Therapy. I worked at a rehab hospital south of Boston for 3 years before coming to Magee in Philadelphia.

Why did you decide to become a physical therapist?  When I graduated from college I didn’t know what to do with my new degree, so I spent some time shadowing different medical professionals. Physical therapy is the one career I kept going back to see again and again. After that, I made the decision to go to PT school, and I’m very glad I did.

What is the most rewarding part of your job?  I really love that moment when a patient conquers a new skill for the first time…especially if they didn’t think they could do it. It’s really great to see that look of accomplishment on their face.

Can you tell us about an experience that solidified for you that you made the right career choice?   This is hard to answer.  I am constantly being reminded that I made the right decision. One of the best experiences is when a former patient comes back to visit. It’s great to see all the progress they have made, and hear about all the new things they are able to do now that they are at home.  It’s very rewarding to know that I played a small part in that progress.

What are some of your hobbies and interests outside of work?  Outside of work I enjoy being active – yoga and biking, going to the beach in the summer and snowboarding in the winter!

Thanks Kelly!  We are so lucky to have you on Team Magee!
