Pastoral Care Week: Spiritual Care at Magee

For many people, personal faith plays an important part in coping with illness and recovery. For this reason, Magee makes every effort to provide an environment in which patients feel comfortable practicing their faith traditions.

At Magee, our staff Spiritual Care provider connects with inpatients and their families, to support them through their time at the hospital. Chaplain Sherry Chandler (pictured above with former Chaplain Jay Barry) meets individually with patients and provides spiritual services each week in the Spirituality Center located on the 6th floor.

“We are committed to each patient’s holistic care, and that includes having a spiritual care provider available for patients and their family members to connect with, if they so wish,” says Meg Rider, Guest Relations, Spiritual Care, and Volunteer Services Manager. “We also welcome our patients to invite their Pastor, Rabbi, Priest, Imam, Minister, or other religious leader to share spiritual enrichment with them and their families while at Magee.”

Our Spirituality Center offers complimentary pamphlets and spiritual reading materials for patients, families, and visitors, on topics like chronic pain, spinal cord injuries, caring for injured loved ones, and faith and healing. We also provide spiritual resources in the Spirituality Center including Old and New Testament, Psalms, and The Quran.  Patients and families may contact Concierge Services to access personal meditation and guided imagery resources, Reiki practitioners, other religious guides and prayer books, and for outreach to other faith communities.

Inpatients and family members may arrange individual spiritual care sessions with a Spiritual Care Provider by contacting our Guest Relations department at 215-587-3112 or SpiritualCare@MageeRehab.org.
