Let’s Walk it Out!

Team Magee is excited to host its Walk It Out fundraiser for the 4th year in a row! The  24-hour fundraiser takes place from 4 p.m. on Friday, April 7 till 4 p.m. on Saturday, April 8. Located at Magee Riverfront (1500 S. Columbus Blvd.), we will have current and former patients walk on either the Therastride treadmill, the lokomat robotic treadmill, or a standard treadmill. The time slots will be 45 minutes long with each participant bringing us a few steps closer to our 24-hour stepping goal! Each patient can have a buddy, such as a friend or family member, walk beside them for support on a standard treadmill. Walking breaks are encouraged, but the goal is to always have at least one treadmill going at all times.

What should you expect at this event? The Riverfront will be filled with energetic music, a mouth-watering food selection, and a chance to mingle with your favorite Magee staff. Whether you are on the treadmill or just coming to hang out, it will be a blast to cheer everyone on! The purpose of this event is to enjoy a day of fun and exercise at Magee Riverfront. Raffle tickets will be on sale for a chance to win numerous prizes.

Why should you donate or attend this event? Magee is one of the members in the NeuroRecovery Network (NRN) affiliated with the Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation. All proceeds from the event will benefit Magee’s Locomotor Training Clinic and the Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation, with the goals of developing therapies to promote functional recovery and improving the health and quality of life for people living with paralysis. There are nearly 1 in 50 people living with paralysis, people like Ashley.

A patient at Magee Riverfront, Ashley has a few goals in mind for her continuing road ahead. Right now, she wants to continue improving her posture and balance, with the ultimate goal of standing and walking independently. In the future, she hopes to pursue a career the psychology field. She hopes to ride horses again, perhaps with an adaptive saddle. She recently took her first flight post-injury to Clearwater, FL, where she saw a physical therapist while checking out the area. She now feels more confident with flying and hopes to start traveling more, with the Bahamas and Paris on her bucket list. With great family support and the attitude of a champion, Ashley will continue making huge strides down her road of recovery!
