Celebrate Social Work Month with Clothing Drive for Magee Patients

Happy Social Work Month from Magee’s Case Management Department! All of Magee’s 11 case managers are masters level, licensed social workers. Every March, we celebrate the contribution social workers have made to society and continue to make right here to our patients at Magee.

The theme for Social Work Month 2016 is Forging Solutions Out of Challenges. We decided to interpret that theme literally by creating a new initiative at Magee called Anna’s Closet. Here’s more on Anna’s Closet and how you can help:

What is Anna’s Closet?
Anna’s Closet is a new initiative created to provide clothing free of charge to Magee patients in need. With all the craziness surrounding a hospital admission, frequently patients arrive at Magee with little to no clothing. Anna’s Closet will provide patients in need with clothing for the first few days of their stay until family or friends are able to bring more from home. The clothes given to the patients from Anna’s Closet are for them to keep and take with them when they are discharged from Magee.

Who is Anna?
The closet is named after Anna Magee, Magee Rehabilitation’s founder.

How can I help fill Anna’s Closet?
Donate any of the following items, new or gently used, for all genders and in any size:

  • Shirts (t-shirts, long sleeves, and shirts with buttons)
  • Pants (sweatpants, pajama pants, pants with an elastic waistband)
  • Jackets (zip-ups, sweatshirts, hoodies)

Donate any of the following items new only, in original packaging or with tags, for all genders and in any size:

  • Socks
  • Underwear

Please DO NOT donate jeans, slacks, dresses, or any clothing with stains, holes, or tears.

Where can I donate?
There are collection boxes in Magee’s main lobby, outside the Case Management Department office on the 3rd floor, and in any of the case managers’ offices.

How long do I have to donate?
The clothing drive for Anna’s Closet runs through the month of March, which is Social Work Month!

Please contact case manager Ashley Loftus if you have any questions. And be sure to visit the National Association of Social Workers to learn more about Social Work Month.
