We BELIEVE in the Healing Power of Horticultural Therapy!

Happy National Horticulture Therapy Week!

It may not feel like it in Philadelphia, but spring is here! At Magee, our greenhouse and healing gardens will soon explode with color and life–all thanks to our very own Horticulture Therapist, Jeannette Glennon-Morrissey.

Horticulture therapists have been a part of Magee’s treatment team for decades, and we are so fortunate to be able to offer such a beautiful service to our patients. These professionals are equipped with specific education, training, and credentialing in the use of horticultural for therapy and rehabilitation, and they are professionally registered with the American Horticultural Therapy Association

Horticultural Therapy is used in rehabilitation to help patients recover from a wide range of diagnoses. It can help improve memory, cognitive abilities, language skills, and social skills. In physical rehabilitation, horticultural therapy can help strengthen muscles and improve coordination, balance, and endurance.

Recently, Magee was honored to be included in the 2018 Philadelphia Flower Show. The balcony display doubled as an accessible therapeutic garden and featured a variety of elements from the hospital’s Horticultural Therapy program.
