Magee Rehabilitation Hospital’s Wheelchair Sports program in renowned throughout the country. Every year, its athletes travel to, and win, national wheelchair rugby, basketball, tennis and soccer tournaments.

But there are so many more sports and activities available for people with disabilities that Magee’s Wheelchair Sports Program is hosting and adaptive sports&recreation day to showcase them to people with disabilities in the Philadelphia area.

The Adaptive Sports&Recreation Day, which will feature everything from scuba diving to wheelchair dancing will take place this Saturday, May 22 from 9:00am till 5:00pm rain or shine at temple University (1901 N. 15th Street).

Admittance to the Adaptive Sport&Recreation Day is free, and includes parking and lunch at no cost.

Supporting sponsors for the Adaptive Sport & Recreation Day also includes Temple University’s Student Affairs Department, the Pennsylvania Center for Adapted Sports, the Challenged Athletes Foundation and the Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation.

(A list of activity demonstrations and times is attached below. In addition to those listed, there will be information tables for the following adapted recreational activities: youth basketball, surfing, flying, water skiing, horseback riding, art, gardening, driving, softball, and camping.)

Court 2:  Wheelchair Dancing (11am to 12:30pm)
    Power Soccer (1 to 2:30pm)
    Power Hockey (3 to 4:30pm)
Court 3:  Sled Hockey (10am to 12pm)
    Martial Arts (1pm to 2pm)
    Wheelchair Basketball (2pm to 5pm)
Outdoor Courts:
Courts 1 and 2:  Wheelchair Tennis (10am to 1pm; 2pm to 4pm)
Court 7:  Wheelchair Rugby (10am to 1pm)
Outdoor Track:  All activities 10am to 1pm
Tandem Cycling
Wheelchair Racing
Indoor Pool:
Scuba (10am to 1pm and 2pm to 4pm)
Kayaking (2pm to 5pm)
Swimming (2pm to 5pm)

Magee Rehabilitation Hospital, founded in 1958, is a 96-bed specialty medical rehabilitation hospital providing physical and cognitive rehabilitation services. Magee’s flagship facility is located in Center City Philadelphia.
