Philadelphia, PaHere in the United States, Labor Day has come to mean the end of summer. But at Magee Rehabilitation Hospital, this Labor Day will provide patients with the opportunity to start something: the voting process.

On Monday, September 1, from noon till 3:00 pm, Magee will have a voter registration booth at the hospitals traditional Patient&Family Labor Day BBQ on the roof of the building.

"Some of our patients will be with us for a while," said Fritz Louis-Jean, Coordinator of Concierge Services and Hospitality Services at Magee. "We wanted to make sure they would still have the chance to vote in this important presidential election by providing them with the chance to register, or to fill out the form necessary to do an absentee ballot."

The voter registration and absentee ballot forms for the BBQ were provided by the office of Pennsylvania State Senator Christine Tartaglione, who is a former Magee patient and current Board member.

The Patient&Family BBQ will also feature such standard BBQ fare as hamburgers, chicken, and ribs on the grill, as well as a live jazz and blues band headed up by former Magee employee, Sharif Abdullah.

"Sharif Abdullah and the Band (the groups name) were kind enough to donate their time and talent to the patients here at Magee," said Louis-Jean. "Between the voter registration and the live music, we're really hoping to do something nice for the patients and provide them with a valuable service."
