Magee Rehabilitation Hospital has named Mendel Kupfer, M.D., of Bala Cynwyd, Pa. (19004), as an Attending Physician. Dr. Kupfer had spent eight months at Magee as a resident in the Hospital's Acute Inpatient Rehabilitation, Outpatient Physiatry Clinic, and Inpatient Stroke Service. He recently completed his residency in physical medicine and rehabilitation at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital (TJUH). During the past year, he was a Relief Physician at Bryn Mawr Hospital.

"From the beginning of my residency, I was impressed with how small-town friendliness is combined with big-city sophistication and cutting-edge expertise at Magee," says Dr. Kupfer. "I look forward to serving patients and continuing in the tradition of dedication and commitment for which Magee has been recognized."

Dr. Kupfer's research in physical medicine and rehabilitation has been exhibited in medical publications and regional presentations. Since 2004, he has been involved in the Resident/Medical Student Mentorship Program, where he has helped answer questions of medical students inquiring about physical medicine and rehabilitation. He has been the recipient of several awards and honors, including the 2006 Resident Award for Exemplary Medical Student Teaching. He assumed hospital committee positions at TJUH, where he had overseen the performances of each clinical department.

He is a member of numerous professional organizations such as the Greater Philadelphia Pain Society, American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, and the Physiatric Association of Spine, Sports, and Occupational Rehabilitation.

Dr. Kupfer received his Doctor of Medicine degree from Sackler School of Medicine at Tel Aviv University in Tel Aviv, Israel. He received a B.S. degree in neuroscience from the University of Pittsburgh.
