Magee Rehabilitation Hospital and Once Upon A Nation Partner to Hold Wheelchair Miniature Golf Event

The 1st Annual Magee-off Wheelchair Miniature Golf Event will be held September 10, at 2:00pm at the Philly Mini Golf at Franklin Square.

Along with allowing participants, their families, and friends to play on the course at no cost, Once Upon A Nation - the organization that oversees Franklin Square (located at 6th&Race), is also supplying classic park refreshments such as hot dogs, soda, and ice cream.

Although the competitors - wheelchair users of varying ages - will be playing on a mini-golf course that features mini models of Philadelphia icons like Elfreth's Alley and Boathouse Row, there is nothing small about their goal, raising awareness for the 18th Annual Jerry Segal Classic - an annual golf tournament that has raised over $6 million for Magee Rehabilitation Hospital.

Segal, who was a patient at Magee after a surgical accident left him a quadriplegic in 1988, started the Jerry Segal Classic as a way to give back to the hospital - and people - who helped him walk again. The first Segal Classic raised over $50,000. Last year alone, it raised over a $1 million. It is the region's biggest single day golf charity event. This year, the Jerry Segal Classic will be held Friday, September 28.
