Magee Rehabilitation Hospital--a world renowned physical and cognitive rehabilitation hospital in Philadelphia--is hosting an Open House November 17 from 3:30 pm to 6:30 pm to celebrate the opening of their new Health & Wellness Center, located at Magee's outpatient facility at 1500 South Columbus Blvd.

11/01/2011 - Phillies Skipper Charlie Manuel Named Magee Rehabilitation Hospital's 2011 Humanitarian of the Year
Philadelphia Phillies Manager, Charlie Manuel, has been named Magee Rehabilitation Hospital in Philadelphias 2011 Humanitarian of the Year, and will officially be recognized by the award-winning physical and cognitive rehab hospital at its 24th Annual Humanitarian Award Dinner November 15 at 5:30 pm at the Four Seasons Hotel on the Ben Franklin Parkway.

10/27/2011 - Legal Clinic for the Disabled housed at Magee Rehabilitation Hospital receives 40,000 from GlaxoSmithKline
GlaxoSmithKline, one of the world's leading research-based pharmaceutical and healthcare companies, has announced that the Legal Clinic for the Disabled, Inc. (www.legalclinicforthedisabled.org) of Philadelphia is one of the GlaxoSmithKline 15th Annual IMPACT Award recipients in the Philadelphia area. The Philadelphia nonprofit will receive $40,000 for having a significant impact on its community by providing access to proactive and effective healthcare services. A ceremony will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 6, 2011 at GlaxoSmithKline in Philadelphia to honor the organization.

10/21/2011 - Magee & Jefferson Receive Over 2 Million to Continue Serving as Regional Spinal Cord Injury Center of the Delaware Valley
The Regional Spinal Cord Injury Center of the Delaware Valley (RSCICDV), a partnership between the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine at Thomas Jefferson University and Hospital and Magee Rehabilitation Hospital has been re-funded through a five-year $2,380,000 Model Spinal Cord Injury System grant from the National Institute on Disability and Rehabilitation Research (NIDRR), a division of the U.S. Department of Education.

10/18/2011 - Philadelphia Marathon and Half Marathon Sold Out But Magee Has Registrations Available
The 18th annual Philadelphia Marathon has sprinted to the finish line and reached capacity, with a record number of participants signed up for the 2011 race. Organizers are now encouraging interested non-registered runners to support a cause (such as Magee) by signing up through an official charity.

09/21/2011 - Former Magee Rehabilitation Hospital patient Frankie La Macchia named aPhiladelphia Daily News Sexy Single
Former Magee Rehabilitation Hospital patient Frankie La Macchia was named a 2011 Philadelphia Daily News Sexy Single. La Macchia, who sustained a spinal cord injury from a motorcycle accident, recently starred in a series of videos that show those with disabilities--particularly wheelchairs--how to live happy, well-rounded, happy lives by staying active in their communities and in the activities that they love. The videos show Frankie using SEPTA to get around, making his kitchen more user-friendly, using equipment at his gym, clothes shopping, and checking out bars and restaurants in Philadelphia to see if they are truly wheelchair-accessibke before going there to hang out with his friends. The videos were created by Magee Recreational Therapist Anna Martin and made possible through a grant from the Kessler Foundation. Anna and Magee nominated Frankie for the Philadephia Daily News Sexy Singles after working with him on the videos.

The 2011 Philadelphia Marathon, to be held on Sunday, November 20, will feature world-class athletes and weekend warriors alike, weaving their way through beautiful, historic Philadelphia for 26.2 miles. Once again, generous runners will put one foot in front the other for a variety of official Philadelphia Marathon charities and Magee Rehabilitation Hospital is one of them!

09/09/2011 - Magee Rehabilitation Hospital Wheelchair Athlete and Wounded Warrior Andy Robinson spoke at FBI 9/11 remembrance
On Friday, September 9, 2011 Magee Rehabilitation Hospital Wheelchair Athlete and Wounded Warrior Andy Robinson spoke at FBI 9/11 remembrance. Andy was a Marine who was injured by an IED (improvised explosive device) that blew the front right off the MumVee he was traveling in. Ironically, Andy was on patrol that day to find the group that was utilizing IEDs in his patrol area.

Magee Rehabilitation Hospital, ranked among the best rehabilitation hospitals in the United States for spinal cord injury, stroke, amputation, traumatic brain injury, orthopedic replacement and pain management has joined the Philadelphia International Medicine(PIM) network.

08/24/2011 - Magee Rehabilitation Hospital's Concussion Clinic to Present at Westtown School August 29
On Monday, August 29, at 6:30 pm, representatives from the Philadelphia Concussion Center at Magee will present to students, athletes, teachers, coaches and parents at Westtown School to teach them how to avoid concussions, how to recognize a concussion if it occurs, and ways to treat them. Penn Manors sports program includes high impact sports such as womenҒs volleyball, lacrosse, field hockey, basketball, soccer, softball and cheerleading and mens football, lacrosse, soccer, basketball, wrestling, baseball, and menҒs volleyball.

08/18/2011 - Magee Rehab Hospital's Concussion Clinic Presented at Friends Select School August 18
On Thursday, August 18, at 11:00 am, representatives from the Philadelphia Concussion Center at Magee presented to coaches, parents and students at the Friends Select School at 17th and the Ben Franklin Parkway to teach them how to avoid concussions, how to recognize a concussion if it occurs, and ways to treat them. Friends Select sports program includes high impact sports such as women's field hockey, soccer, basketball and softball and men's soccer, wrestling, baseball and basketball.

08/12/2011 - Wheelchair Tennis Tourney hosted by Magee Rehabilitation Hospitals Freedom Tennis Team to be held Aug. 12 through Aug. 14.
The Mid-Atlantic Regions top wheelchair athletes will compete in the 2011 Philadelphia Wheelchair Tennis Tournament on Aug. 12 beginning at 4 p.m. till Aug. 14 at the Cherry Hill Health and Racquet Club.

07/22/2011 - Toyota to Donate Vehicle to Magee Rehabilitation Hospital Based on Public Votes
Magee Rehabilitation Hospital is one of 500 finalists in Toyota's 100 Cars for Good program, which will award vehicles to 100 nonprofit organizations based on votes from the public.

07/05/2011 - Young Rabbis Cycling Cross Country for Children with Special Needs to Stop at Magee Rehabilitation Hospital
Three rabbis, Daniel Saul, Zalman Perlman and Shmuel Rothstein are riding their bicycles across the United States to raise awareness for children with special needs. And on Thursday, July 7 at noon, theyll be stopping at Magee Rehabilitation Hospital at 16th and Race Street where theyҒll receive some refreshments and encouragement Ņand leave behind some inspiration for the patients there with physical and cognitive disabilities. The cyclists will be hosted on Magees rooftop, where they will ride with athletes from MageeҒs wheelchair racing team in a show of support and solidarity.

On June 28, Phillies Skipper Charlie Manuel visited with patients at Magee Rehabilitation Hospital in Philadelphia... ...even though he had to prepare for the Phillies' first game against the Boston Red Sox later that day.

06/23/2011 - Magee Rehabilitation Hospital advocate and wheelchair athlete AJ Nanayakkara was named the Anapol Schwartz Foundation 2011 Outstanding Spinal Cord Injury Advocate
Magee Rehabilitation Hospital advocate and wheelchair athlete AJ Nanayakkara was named the Anapol Schwartz Foundation 2011 Outstanding Spinal Cord Injury Advocate. AJ was nominated by the Legal Clinic for the Disabled, which is housed at Magee. AJ donated the $5,000 he received to the Legal Clinic for the Disabled.

06/22/2011 - Magee Rehabilitation Hospital Creates Videos to Help Those in Wheelchairs Regain Independence
In 2010, Magee Rehabilitation Hospital received a grant from the Kessler Foundation to create a series of short videos that will show how wheelchair users can go about their daily routines and live life to the fullest. The videos have been created. On June 20, Magee released 4 videos on their website (MageeRehab.org /page.php?id=1180) and YouTube page (MageeRehab) called A Day In The LifeӔ which star former Magee patient Frankie LaMacchia showingand explainingחhow he overcomes obstacles and uses available services to get around, get through chores Ņand have fun.

06/03/2011 - Magee Rehabilitation Hospital Patient to Graduate From Boys Latin Charter School June 6 at Magee
On Monday, June 6, Magee will be hosting a graduation party for Foday Gibateh at 3:30 pm, complete with decorations and refreshments, and will be skyping the graduation ceremony so that he may watch his classmates receive their diplomas.

06/02/2011 - Boys' Latin of Philadelphia Charter School gives diploma to graduate and Magee Spinal Cord patient Foday Gibateh
On Thursday, June 2, David P. Hardy, CEO of Boys' Latin of Philadelphia Charter School came to Magee Rehabilitation Hospital to give spinal cord injury patient Foday Gibateh his diploma. Gibateh will not be able to attend the school's graduation June 6 because he received a spinal cord injury in a car accident. Gibateh is the first Boys' Latin graduate to be accepted to a 4-year college/university (Penn State) and is the first person in his family to attend college/university.

05/18/2011 - Magee Night of Champions breaks its record raising $195,000. See a short video
On May 6, 2011, Magee Rehabilitation Hospital held their 11th Annual Night of Champions fundraiser. The event broke its own record for raising money, bringing in over $195,000 for Patient Programs including wheelchair sports, horticultural therapy, art therapy, pastoral care and the patient resource center. Magee would like to thank all who helped make the 11th Annual Night of Champions a great success.
