Magee offers individualized assessment for anyone who may have sustained a concussion.  Magee’s physicians and neuro-psychologists have expertise in the assessment and treatment of individuals with head injuries.

The Philadelphia Concussion Center at Magee Rehabilitation Hospital utilizes ImPACT™ (Immediate Post-Concussion Assessment and Cognitive Testing), the most widely used and most scientifically validated computerized concussion evaluation system.

Magee offers a comprehensive range of services to address post-injury concerns. These include:
  • Assistance in setting up pre-season screening of athletes
  • Quick and timely appointment availability with Free Parking
  • Baseline, pre-season neuro-cognitive assessments using ImPACT
  • Comprehensive post- injury physical and neuro-cognitive assessment, including ImPACT test
  • As appropriate, follow-up with neuropsychologists, physical, occupational, and speech therapists
  • Interface with schools regarding accommodations needed during recovery  
  • Recommendations regarding safe return to play
  • Feedback supplied to referring physician

Features of the ImPACT Test

ImPACT (Immediate Post-Concussion Assessment and Cognitive Testing) is the first, most-widely used, and most scientifically validated computerized concussion evaluation system.

Test Features Include
  • Measure player symptoms
  • Measure verbal and visual memory, processing speed and reaction time measured to 1/100th of second
  • Assist clinicians and athletic trainers in making difficult return-to-play decisions
  • Provide reliable baseline and post injury test comparisons
  • Produce comprehensive report of test results
Given the inherent difficulties in concussion management, it is important to manage concussions on an individualized basis and to implement baseline testing and/or post-injury neuro-cognitive testing.  This type of concussion assessment can help to objectively evaluate the concussed athlete's post-injury condition and track recovery for safe return to play, thus preventing the cumulative effects of concussion.
