On November 9, 2010 Rebecca Levenberg was riding her bike to work—in the bike lane on Washington Ave—when a garbage truck crashed into her. The accident resulted in an above-knee amputation of her left leg…

…and Rebecca being amputated from in-line skating with her friends and fellow members of the Land Skaters, a Philadelphia organization of in-line skaters who meet at the Philadelphia Museum of Art and skate throughout the city.

But the Land Skaters are not known for leaving their members behind.

On December 25—Christmas Day—at 10:30am, the Land Skaters will be saluting Rebecca with a “skate-by” in front of Magee Rehabilitation Hospital at 16th&Race where she is receiving physical and occupational rehabilitation.

Although touched by the gesture, it comes as no surprise to Rebecca, who says that the Land Skaters are known for their charity work (which includes collecting and delivering toys for Toys for Tots) and compassion. According to Rebecca, the Land Skaters even bought her an IPad so she can stay in touch with them while at Magee.

Rebecca and members of the Land Skaters will be available for interviews during the “skate-by salute.”
