On December 4 and 5, between 8:00 am and 5:00 pm on Saturday, and 8:00 am and 3:00 pm on Sunday, wheelchair basketball teams will take to the court for the 9th Annual Dan Sullivan Wheelchair Basketball Tournament at the RiverWinds Community Center, 1000 RiverWinds Drive, West Deptford, New Jersey.

It may be the season of good will, but make no mistake about it, the teams competing are coming to win.

The tournament—named for Dan Sullivan, the Wheelchair Basketball Hall of Famer who founded the Delaware Valley Wheelchair Athletic Association in 1977—is sponsored by Magee Rehabilitation Hospital in Philadelphia, and will feature Magee’s own team, the Magee Sixers Spokesmen who are also supported by the NBA’s Philadelphia ‘76ers. Expected to attend on Sunday are Dan Sullivan, as well as representatives form the Philadelphia ‘76ers.

Wheelchair Basketball is played using most of the same, familiar rules as regular basketball, with a few exceptions which have been modified with consideration for the wheelchair. For example, "traveling" in wheelchair basketball occurs when the athlete touches his wheels more than twice after receiving or dribbling the ball. The individual must pass, bounce or shoot the ball before he or she can touch their wheels again.
