Christopher S. Formal, M.D.
Residency Program Director

I would like to take this opportunity to compliment you on your career choice. Physical medicine and rehabilitation has a number of distinct qualities that make it an excellent choice as a medical specialty.

Physiatry does not limit itself to one part of the body. Rather, this specialty focuses on the ability of an individual to function in society. This broad-based approach to patient care makes the physiatrist a valuable commodity in the medical marketplace. While other specialties are downsizing their residency programs, physical medicine and rehabilitation finds itself in a growth phase. The societal trends of increasing managed medical care and the advancing age of the population will only serve to upgrade our worth.

I also believe that your choice of residency program is an excellent one. As a graduate of the Jefferson program, I can personally attest to the quality of this educational experience.

The program has many fine qualities, but the most treasured one is the individual contact between attending and resident physicians in a teaching setting. Whether at the bedside, in an outpatient office, or in a lecture hall, the attending staff continues to cultivate the future leaders of the field. This program has a long and proud heritage of education.

I invite you to visit us, and become a part of this exciting tradition.
