Your Guide to Day Tripping to Atlantic City

Summer is here, and it is time to get out of the house, have some fun, and get some good exercise, too! Atlantic City, NJ makes for a great day trip. It is a short ride, has plenty of accessible parking, and is pretty easy to get around for those of us in wheelchairs. Plus, your arms will feel GREAT after pushing all day on the boardwalk.

I have done this tons of times and start my adventures by parking at Caesars, where they offer discounted parking. I strategically park there as it allows me access to the best of both worlds: it’s close to the outlet shops and the boardwalk! After parking, head toward the outlets and enjoy easy, flat access to lots of great stores. (Don’t forget to Google “Atlantic City outlets” and print your coupons before you go!)

After working your way through the outlets, head on up to the boardwalk. It is flat and very easy to get around, and if you are in a wheelchair, you won’t be alone, as I often see lots of others in chairs and scooters enjoying the day. Going end to end is a great workout, and when you get tired, duck into a casino to cool off, use a restroom, or get something to eat.

If you really want to make a trip out of it, plan to stay over. Atlantic City hotels have lots of accessible rooms. When you book, be sure to ask for a room with a roll-in shower if you need it, and ask again when you check in. Adding an overnight gives you a better experience, as you can then see a show, enjoy both of the free light shows on the boardwalk, or just people watch as the town comes to life.

Life is too short not to enjoy each day, and Atlantic City is an easy outing you can do by yourself, with a friend, or with the whole family.

Oh, by the way, don’t forget your sunscreen!
