Thanking Our Helping Hands: Volunteer Appreciation Week

Get ready to celebrate! April 15–21 marks the official observance of National Healthcare Volunteer Week!

At Magee, volunteers are an absolutely essential asset to our team. Every day, these integral Team Magee members choose to spend their time helping to positively shape each patient’s experience at the hospital. Our volunteers play a number of roles in the day-to-day for patients, all of which are focused on helping them to heal and have a pleasant experience while at Magee.

In 2017 alone, 217 volunteers (106 peer mentors and 111 active) gave 17,014 hours of service to Magee. These 17,000+ hours represent donations of time and talent by both individual and group volunteers, and at an average hourly rate of $24.14*, this gift of time is worth $410,718. If you ask us, that is a pretty incredible donation!

On April 21, 1974, President Richard Nixon designated this week as National Volunteer Week, urging individuals to give back to their communities and help those in need. As a non-profit hospital, our volunteers are critical to our success, and we are so grateful for their commitment to helping our patients.
