PT Spotlight: Caitlin Corbin

October is National Physical Therapy Month! Physical therapists are an integral part of Team Magee, and in honor of this month, we’ll be introducing you to a member of our talented crew each week in October.Today’s spotlight is on Caitlin Corbin, PT, DPT, a senior physical therapist making a difference in the lives of the patients and families on the 5th floor here at Magee.

Tell us a little bit more about your background.

I received my undergraduate degree at The College of New Jersey, and my graduate degree at Widener University. I came to Magee after I graduated in 2010, and have been here for about 3 and a half years.

Why did you decide to become a physical therapist?

I knew I wanted to work with people and it was between becoming a teacher or a physical therapist. Once I began taking all of the anatomy and kinesiology classes, I was fascinated with the way our bodies worked and moved, so I knew physical therapy would be the best choice for me!

What is the most rewarding part of your job?

Getting to know my patients and their families along their journey of recovery and being able to help them make progress during what could possibly be the hardest time of their life is very rewarding.

Tell us about an experience that solidified for you that you made the right career choice.

I’ve had so many great patient experiences, it is hard to pick just one. The best feeling for me is after having a patient struggle to learn a new skill for weeks, (whether it is standing, walking or transferring) then all of the sudden, it just clicks! Or when a patient gains new strength and is able to progress further than the previous day. I feel really lucky to work in this acute type setting where a lot of these changes can happen at any time. It really keeps you on your toes!

What are some of your hobbies and interests outside of work?

Our families live at the shore so my husband and I spend a lot of time down there in the summer with our golden doodle Opie. I also like to spend as much time outdoors as possible whether it is playing kickball, stand up paddle boarding or just curling up on the beach with a good book!
