Moms Make a Difference at Magee

Once a year, we take some extra time to give thanks to all of the amazing moms in our world. This Sunday, we said “Happy Mother’s Day” to all the strong and inspiring women we are lucky enough to call moms.

At Magee, many of our patients’ incredible caregivers are mothers, and we cherish them all. Moms like Lisa Lithgow. You may remember her son Jackie Lithgow’s story. In February 2014, Jackie sustained a brain injury while trying to break up a fight at a party near Bloomsburg University, where he was a freshman. He would spend 275 days in the hospital, many of them at Magee. Either Lisa or her husband Jim slept by Jackie’s side every night, hours from their home near Carlisle, PA. Just two days before Thanksgiving, Jackie finally came home. Lisa was a driving force behind her son’s recovery here at Magee. She chronicles Jackie’s tremendous progress on her blog. This spring, Jackie has been to a movie theater for the first time since his injury and even went fishing. He gets stronger each day at a day rehab program close to home. We are so proud of Jackie’s courage, and we have a feeling he inherited some of that from his wonderful mom.

Thanks to all the super moms out there that keep us going, and Happy Mother’s Day!
