Meet Our Nurse & Nurse Assistant of the Year!

Yesterday, in honor of National Nurses Week, we honored our Nurse of the Year and our CNA of the Year in a cupcake and hug-filled celebration.

Our Nurse of the Year is Kit Martin, LPN. Kit has been nursing for 35 years, and 23 of those years have been at Magee. During her time at Magee, she has worked on every floor of the house. She is consistently recognized for the quality of care she provides, and the compassion she shows her patients. She says every day coming to work is a joy, and she has “never seen so many people in one place that give their hearts and souls to their patients.” She says she is very honored and humbled to receive this award, but that she couldn’t have done it without all her coworkers and a great management team.

Our Nurse Assistant  of the Year is Kusay Al-Sharqi, CNA. Kusay has been a certified nursing assistant since 2010, and joined Team Magee the same year. He is known throughout the hospital for his compassion toward his patients and his willingness to always go above and beyond his job description. On his evenings off, the patients notice he is gone and always ask for him – a testament to the quality of care he provides. As one of his nominators said, “most others don’t compare.” Kusay loves being able to draw a smile from patients, and  is very proud to be named Nurse Assistant of the Year.

In addition to the awards ceremony, the Nurses Week Celebration included a cupcake cook-off! Check out the photo gallery below to see highlights from the event – and the winning cupcake display!
