Join a Wheelchair Sports Team at Magee

Are you looking for something new to try? Look no further because Magee’s wheelchair sports teams are fun, exciting, and competitive. Here is some info on the programs we offer:

Basketball for blogWheelchair Basketball An exciting sport of skill and teamwork, whether you’re an athlete with an amputation, spinal cord injury, multiple sclerosis, or another lower extremity disability; basketball is a great way to get exercise, have fun, and be challenged. Practices are held Wednesday evenings, October through April, at the Carousel House (corner of Belmont Ave. and Avenue of the Republic, Philadelphia, PA 19131).

Quad rugby for blogRugby – Rugby players collide, literally, as teams of four scramble to push a volleyball down a basketball court through their opponents’ zone and across the goal line. Practices are held Tuesday evenings, October through April, at Carousel House (corner of Belmont Ave. & Avenue of the Republic, Philadelphia, PA 19131).

tennis for blogWheelchair Tennis –
A brilliant adaptation to the original game – almost nothing is changed from the rules of able-bodied tennis. Athletes use the same courts, raquets, and balls to compete; the only modification is a rule allowing a second bounce before a player must return the ball. Practices are held year-round at the Cherry Hill Racquet Club (1820 Old Cuthbert Road, Cherry Hill, NJ 08034)

The annual wheelchair Tennis Tournament takes place on August 12-14, 2016.

WC racer JimmyWheelchair Racing Did you know Magee sponsors members of the wheelchair racing community in local races including the Philadelphia Marathon, Rothman 8K, and Broad Street Run?

Magee’s wheelchair sports programs are open to everyone in the community. Whether you are experienced or it is your first time, we would love for you to join us and see what it’s all about. We can supply a chair for you to try each sport.
