Hate to Exercise? Try These Fun Activities

We all know that an active lifestyle helps our mental and physical health. Exercising on a regular basis is easier said than done, especially for beginners. Start out with the mindset, “Sit Less, Move More!” Moving more does not have to mean CrossFit or signing up for a 5K! Focus activities that get you moving while having fun.

Here is a list of activities to help you move more and do not feel like “exercise.”

Play Twister! How is this exercise? You will be laughing from the ridiculous positions you are in while also engaging those abs so you can stay put without falling over! Wear comfortable clothing that won’t slip while you are in compromising positions!

Become a real life treasure-hunter and get a great workout in while you’re at it with geochaching. This is areal-world, outdoor treasure hunting game using GPS-enabled devices. Participants walk or bike to a specific set of GPS coordinates and then attempt to find the geocache (container) hidden at that location. Pretty cool, huh? You can learn more here.

Play backyard games like bocce ball, croquet and cornholl bag toss. They may not burn 1,000 calories and get your heart pumping super-fast but you will be more active than sitting on the couch!

Laughter Yoga: This is not a joke (pun intended!).  Laughter is excellent exercise for the body AND mind. Laughter Yoga is a form of systematized laughter into an exercise form that is simple to learn and practice. Check out these 25 laughter yoga exercises to get you started.

Ballroom Dancing: It is not just for brides and grooms to be! Bonus: For the men out there, you get brownie points for choosing a romantic activity! You would be surprised what you can sign up for and what will elevate your heart rate. There are Groupons and Living Social deals all the time for intro ballroom dancing lessons!

Playground Fun: Play on the playground with your kids! You burn calories and make for great quality time.

Play with your pup: Go to a dog park and DON’T sit down! Play fetch or pace around the dog park while your pup socializes. Of course walking your dog is always an excellent way to get in some exercise!

Video Games that get you OFF the couch. Like Wii Tennis, Wii Fit, Just Dance Xbox Kinect, Wii Shaun White Snowboarding Road Trip,and Dance Dance Revolution to name a few!
