Art Heals at PAFA Raises $11,000 for Art Therapy

Last Wednesday, October 7, Magee’s Art Heals event was held at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts (PAFA). Over 90 people attended the event to help celebrate Magee’s art therapy program, and more than $11,000 was raised. Patient artwork created over the past year was on display among the existing artwork in PAFA’s Tuttleman Gallery. Attendees included former patients and their families, Magee staff, and others from the community who support Magee. The event was highlighted by remarks made by former Magee patient and PAFA’s current Assistant Director of Museum Education Katie Samson and Lisa Haver, the mother of former patient Daren Dieter. Two former patients, Mayuko Abe and Keira Aviles, were presented with the Daren Dieter Excellence in Art Award, supported by The Honickman Foundation, which will provide funds for both women to continue pursuing art at home.

Thank you to all who attended this wonderful event in support of Magee’s Art Therapy program. For more information on Art Therapy at Magee, click here.
